Location
Alicante is a well-known Spanish tourist destination with a population of approx. 330,000. inhabitants, located in the region of Valencia. It is known for its long, wide and well-maintained beaches, the bustling, charming city center and the castle of Saint Barbara, located on top of a mount overlooking the historic town. It is also a paradise for people practicing various sports, including, of course, beach volleyball, but also many others – water sports, cycling, free-climbing etc.
We will stay in a hotel right next to San Juan beach in a quieter part of Alicante. It is a beautiful, clean sand beach stretching for as much as 6.2 km with an average width of 85 m!!! Along the beach there is a charming promenade lined with numerous cafes and bars.
Accommodation and board
We will stay and eat at the 3-star Hotel Castilla. The hotel is located 200m from the beach and 500m from the courts. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool and a playground. Other facilities like the grocery store, and pharmacy are all close by. The tram and bus stop are right next to the hotel. We will have at our disposal a meeting room in the hotel.
At the beginning of 2023, the hotel will be renovated – all rooms will be of a superior standard. The hotel has double and triple rooms. Baby cots are also available. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning and a TV. Wi-fi works in the entire hotel. The price of the camp includes HB board – breakfast and dinner. We made sure that the breakfasts are not in the typical Mediterranean style, i.e. sweet only – there will be hot dishes, vegetables, and fruits – all this to power you up for the intensive day! Breakfast will be served in the form of a buffet. The dinner will be a plated 2-course with dessert. And for lunch, you can go to one of the many nearby restaurants – many of them offer lunch menus at a good price.
We will recommend a few once you’re there.
Training
As some of you already know – training quality is our top priority. We welcome people of all skill levels. Training groups will be of 6 players (in the case of basic groups it might be 8 players). We arrange the groups before the camp and make minor adjustments after the first sessions. There will be one field and one coach per group. Training units will last about 1 hour 30 minutes.
We do not have a fixed training program. As we work with experienced coaches, they will adjust the plan and drills as per group needs. In the middle of the camp, we plan a day off. If you have some beach volleyball friends or a training group, we encourage you to sign up in a group or as a pair. If you are a solo traveler, we will put you into an adequate training group. The courts will be free to use outside of training sessions. Some of the courts are equipped with lighting.
San Juan Beach is famous for its beach volleyball. There will be many other players around us – it will be a great opportunity to play a game or tournament with people from outside the camp.
We will reveal the camp coaches gradually.
Schedule and getting there
Definitely, the most convenient way of getting to Alicante is by plane. There are a lot of flights from across Europe. From Alicante airport to the hotel you can get by public transport in no more than an hour. The bus/tram stops very close to the hotel.
The camp starts on March 16, but the first training sessions are on March 17. If someone wants to arrive a day or a few days in advance or stay a few days longer, please contact us. The courts will also be available outside the camp dates.
March 16 – first day
* arrivals day/check-in
* dinner
* evening – organizational meeting
For players/groups that arrive early, we can organize a training. Or borrow some balls for a game ?
March 23 – last day
* breakfast
* training session
* check-out (late check should be avaliable)
* end of the camp… ?
For travel companions... and not only
The biggest attraction, located right next to the hotel, is the beautiful and huge San Juan beach with a promenade stretching for over 6 km!
At a distance of 1.5 km from the hotel, there is a large, modern sports center (https://arenaalicante.com/). It has plenty of sports facilities including two swimming pools, a SPA zone, gyms, a cycling zone, boxing, tennis, and paddle courts, a football field, treadmills, and many other sports installations. In addition, there is also a playroom for children, where you can leave them and have some time for yourself.
One of the most interesting attractions of Alicante is a ride… by tram. This is because the tram line to the north runs right next to the sea and can take you to many charming towns.
Visiting the center of Alicante is a must, you can here get by public transport in about half an hour. Once you’re there it’s worth taking a walk along the Promenade – Explanada de España, walk around the charming Santa Cruz district and visit the central market, where you can grab something to eat and drink.
Children
Are you considering whether to come with children?
San Juan beach is huge and very well maintained. It has been awarded the Blue Flag for the highest standards of water, sand, and quality of services. The clean stoneless beach is ideal for kids to play and if offers playgrounds and different installations they can use. In The Arena Sports Center there is a children’s zone where you can leave the little ones under the care of qualified staff. There are kids’ facilities at the hotel too.
Depending on the number and age of children who will join the camp, we will be able to organize activities and training / beach games on the sand for them.
So if you are considering taking your children, please contact us and we will inform you about the current offer of activities for children.
These are our coaches for the camp. We will keep presenting them gradually. But you can be sure we work only with experienced and good coaches
